Program Overview

We would like to invite you to the 2024 West Virginia Trauma Symposium to be held at the Stonewall Resort, Roanoke, WV. This conference is designed for trauma surgeons, general surgeons, emergency room physicians, nurses, mid-level providers, pre-hospital health care providers, coding specialists and health information professionals. A Trauma Registrar workshop, DMEP Course, WV Trauma Orientation Workshop and a Trauma Informed Care Course will be presented as separate meetings on Wednesday, February 14, 2024. This conference will represent a collaborative effort between state and national experts in various trauma disciplines from around West Virginia and the United States. The speakers will present progressive and challenging issues in the field of trauma care. Committee meetings will begin Friday afternoon, February 16, 2024. The State Trauma Audit Review Presentations will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024. All conference attendees are invited to attend. 

At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
  • Review current treatment in the care of the Traumatic brain injuries. 
  • Review and discuss trauma induced hypocalcemia.
  • Identify new treatments in the care of the spinal cord injury patient. 
  • Review the care of pelvic fractures in the trauma patient. 
  • Examine unusual trauma cases over 30 years.
  • Discuss guidelines for antimicrobial prophylaxis in open fractures.
  • Discuss the treatment and management of upper extremity pseudoaneurysm.
  • Review the treatment of traumatic coagulopathy.
  • Review treatment of the orthopedic trauma patient at a non-tertiary center.
  • Discuss current treatment strategies in managing delirium in ICU patients. 
  • Review current treatment and care of pediatric trauma patients.
  • Discuss current research and outcomes in the trauma literature.
