Department Overview

Welcome from our Division Director

Nadeem Anwar, MD
Professor of Medicine | Division Director
Gastroenterology and Hepatology

Welcome to the Division of Gastroenterology/Hepatology at Charleston Area Medical Center, a tertiary care, teaching institution with multiple educational affiliations, including West Virginia University and West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. I am proud to be part of a talented division comprised of a dedicated clinical staff that is a caring team of specialized doctors, nurses, technicians, and other ancillary personnel who are committed to improving the health and well-being of patients with a variety of gastrointestinal and liver disorders. As a regional referral center, we offer expertise in all areas of clinical GI, hepatology, and advanced endoscopy. In addition to addressing specific medical needs, we promote health through preventive care, cancer screening, and by providing education, allowing the patient to better understand their disease process.

Our division also boasts several active clinical research projects and has been presenting our research at various regional, national, and international meetings. We have been actively expanding our division with the addition of new faculty who perform cutting-edge procedures and services for our patients. Our faculty are highly skilled clinicians, translational investigators, and educators with expertise in virtually every area of the digestive system. All are dedicated to their patients and to advancing knowledge in the field.
