Training Programs in Surgery
The five-year CAMC General Surgery Residency program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) as a sponsoring institution of Graduate Medical Education residency and fellowship programs. The CAMC General Surgery Residency is sponsored by CAMC. West Virginia University Charleston Campus is an affiliate educational partner. The program is designed to produce a balanced general surgeon equally capable of practicing in academic or community hospital settings.

The CAMC Surgical Critical Care Fellowship earned initial accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and is set to welcome its first fellow in August 2026. The program empowers its fellows to excel in the management of critically ill surgical patients, enhance their surgical skills and develop their expertise in critical care medicine. By fostering a culture of compassion, professionalism and lifelong learning, we aim to improve patient outcomes and advance the field of surgical critical care.

Research
Residents actively participate in continuing education, medical student education and research. The faculty provides the necessary support and guidance.
