The CAMC Center for Learning and Research is the CAMC Institute for Academic Medicine's state-of-the-art hub for simulation, education and research.

The facility expands Vandalia Health Charleston Area Medical Center's role as an Academic Medical Center and strengthens our commitment to providing high-quality learning experiences for employees, residents, fellows, nurses and other health care professionals. It also serves as a regional resource for residents and students from affiliated universities across the country, providing a modern, hands-on environment to prepare the next generation of health care professionals.

Located across from Vandalia Health CAMC Memorial Hospital in Charleston, WV, the CAMC Center for Learning and Research offers a highly realistic clinical training environment where learners can safely practice procedures, build teamwork and become familiar with new equipment before applying those skills at the bedside. In addition to advanced simulation, the facility features modern conference rooms and flexible meeting spaces that can support small workshops, large conferences and hybrid events.

 

The CAMC Center for Learning and Research features a variety of simulation rooms designed to support hands-on learning and practice, including three operating rooms, one critical care room, a labor and delivery suite, five training rooms, eight inpatient rooms and six outpatient rooms.

The CAMC Foundation launched the Knowledge at the Center of Care campaign to raise $6 million from the community to help construct the facility and outfit it with the latest technology and equipment, including an Anatomage 3D anatomy and virtual dissection platform, immersive virtual reality training simulation software and high-fidelity lifelike training mannequins.

 

Services Through Integrated Health Education

The CAMC Center for Learning and Research hosts the Institute for Academic Medicine's Integrated Health Education department, the largest provider of American Heart Association CPR training in West Virginia, offering all levels of CPR, AED and first aid courses.

As an American Safety and Health Institute Training Center, Integrated Health Education at the CAMC Center for Learning and Research offers a broad selection of OSHA-compliant training programs. It also supports organizations in creating on-site Public Access Defibrillation programs, providing expert guidance from start to finish to meet organizational safety needs.

In special situations, arrangements can be made for off-site locations outside the Charleston, WV, area. Training times are flexible, and schedules can be created to meet unique training and staffing needs. The team can develop creative ways to deliver effective training tailored to individual needs and goals.
