The CAMC Institute for Academic Medicine is pleased to announce that it has appointed Haytham Alkhaimy, MD, as program director of the Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship at Vandalia Health Charleston Area Medical Center, effective June 1.
Dr. Alkhaimy is a board-certified interventional cardiologist with expertise in complex percutaneous coronary interventions and cardiac critical care, including mechanical circulatory support. He also holds board certifications in cardiovascular disease, echocardiography and nuclear cardiology, as well as certification in vascular ultrasound interpretation.
Dr. Alkhaimy earned his medical degree from Damascus University School of Medicine in Damascus, Syria. After completing his internal medicine residency at Augusta University in Georgia, he practiced as a hospitalist in West Virginia. He then pursued his passion for cardiology through fellowship training in cardiovascular disease at CAMC, followed by an interventional cardiology fellowship at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, AR.
Dr. Alkhaimy later returned to CAMC as a faculty member, where he has served as the associate program director of the Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship. In his new role as program director, he will lead its continued growth and development.
“It’s an absolute honor to lead this program at a place that shaped me,” said Dr. Alkhaimy. “I’m excited to give back to the community that supported me and to guide the next generation of cardiologists.”
He added, “I’m also deeply committed to lighting the way for future cardiologists — helping them build the skills, compassion and confidence they need to deliver outstanding, patient-centered care in every community they serve.”
