The CAMC Institute for Academic Medicine has appointed James Derek Collins, MD, FAAP, as program director of the Pediatrics Residency at Vandalia Health Charleston Area Medical Center, effective Sept. 1, 2025.

Dr. Collins is a board-certified developmental-behavioral pediatrician. He earned his undergraduate degree from Marshall University and his medical degree from the West Virginia University School of Medicine.

He completed his pediatrics residency at CAMC and the WVU Health Sciences Charleston Campus, where he also served as chief resident, before pursuing fellowship training in developmental-behavioral pediatrics at PRISMA Health in Greenville, SC.

“I am honored to serve as the Pediatrics Residency program director at a place that means so much to me both personally and professionally. Having trained here as a resident and served as a chief resident, I care deeply about the strength, culture and future of this program. This role is not just an administrative responsibility — it is a privilege to give back to a community that helped shape the physician I am today,” said Dr. Collins.

He added, “I’m excited to mentor and support the next generation of pediatricians who will deliver equitable, high-quality care and bring meaningful change to the communities they serve.”
