The CAMC Institute for Academic Medicine is pleased to announce the appointment of Jennifer Hughes, PhD, as program director of the Child Clinical Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship at Vandalia Health Charleston Area Medical Center.
The fellowship program will welcome its first fellow in July.
Dr. Hughes is a clinical psychologist with interests in children and adolescents, high-risk youth, perinatal mental health, underserved populations and trauma-informed care. She earned her master’s and doctoral degrees from Ohio University and completed her predoctoral internship with CAMC’s Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry department.
Dr. Hughes previously worked in foster care and child welfare for several years, including positions in assessment, intervention, training, supervision, program development and wraparound services.
Dr. Hughes returned to CAMC in 2017 as a senior psychologist at the CAMC Family Resource Center, where she treated a range of youth and adult patients and served on several multidisciplinary teams. In 2024, she returned to the Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry department as a faculty psychologist.
Dr. Hughes has been an active faculty member in CAMC’s predoctoral internship program since 2014, with roles in women’s health and pediatrics.
“I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to lead a program that will provide valuable training opportunities for our workforce as well as expert behavioral health services for some of the most underserved youth in our community,” said Dr. Hughes. “We are so thankful for the support of our administration and community partners in developing this program.”
The Institute for Academic Medicine celebrates this milestone in the program's development under Dr. Hughes’ leadership as it prepares to welcome its inaugural fellow.
