CAMC provides fellows with a rich clinical experience through a diverse patient population and a broad spectrum of headache disorders. Fellows work closely with fellowship-trained headache specialists while collaborating with physicians from neurology, neurosurgery, pain medicine, emergency medicine, physical medicine and rehabilitation, behavioral health, ophthalmology, and other specialties.

Clinical experience

Throughout the fellowship, trainees gain experience in:

  • Comprehensive outpatient headache evaluation and management 
  • Chronic and refractory migraine care 
  • Secondary headache disorders 
  • Post-traumatic headache 
  • Women's headache medicine 
  • Medication overuse headache 
  • Headache management during pregnancy and other special populations 

 

Procedural training

Fellows develop proficiency in commonly performed headache procedures, including:

  • OnabotulinumtoxinA (Botox®) injections for chronic migraine 
  • Peripheral nerve blocks 
  • Trigger point injections 
  • Sphenopalatine ganglion block techniques  
  • Administration and management of CGRP-targeted therapies 
  • Neuromodulation therapies and emerging treatment options
