The Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship provides a unique, contemporary training experience in a high volume clinical environment supported by talented and highly specialized faculty.

Comprehensive Clinical Training

The CAMC Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship is housed in a 960 bed quaternary care hospital center that is nestled between the mountains alongside a river in the state capital of West Virginia. The institution has a rich history of graduate medical education, including becoming the first university-affiliated (West Virginia University) hospital system within the United States in the 1970s.

The institution has a legacy of providing innovative cardiovascular care and is currently one of the highest volume interventional programs within the United States. The strong coronary interventional, structural heart and vascular programs have gained national recognition. 

Recently, we have recruited faculty with advanced cardiac imaging training in cardiovascular computed tomography, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, structural heart disease, and 3-D echocardiography. 

On any given day, you will find as many as 800 learners doing research or caring for patients within the CAMC health care system, including a regional medical school campus with 179 medical students from West Virginia University and West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine.

Research Opportunities

CAMC has dedicated significant resources to align the advanced imaging and heart failure programs with our interventional centers of excellence as we embark on a new strategic focus of teaching and research. The program has a very active cardiovascular simulation program and is in the process of building a standalone simulation center.

Life as a Cardiovascular Disease Fellow at CAMC

Our PGL 6 Cardiovascular Disease fellow, Mohammed Arisha, MD, gave an excellent presentation at November's journal club.

The cardiology fellows attended a Management Workshop to get hands on training on an important device used for hemodynamic stabilization. This is one of many educational/simulation experiences offered to our fellows throughout their training.

We are thankful for our faculty and fellows. Over the years, we have gotten the opportunity to meet amazing people and watch them grow into skilled physicians. We are proud of all they have done and will accomplish in the future.

Our fellows learned more about the HeartFlow Analysis for coronary artery disease. As a recipient of the HeartFlow CT Quality Award, CAMC is recognized in the top 15% of global medical centers providing patients with a better pathway for identifying and understanding their heart health by utilizing coronary CT and the HeartFlow Analysis.
