Mark Gustafson, DO, FACEP
Mark Gustafson, DO, earned his medical degree from Lincoln Memorial University - DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2012. He then completed the Emergency Medicine Residency at CAMC in 2016, serving as chief resident during his final year. After residency, Dr. Gustafson joined the CAMC Emergency Medicine faculty, was promoted to associate program director in 2018 and became program director in 2020. In September 2025, he was appointed associate designated institutional official for the CAMC Institute for Academic Medicine.
Dr. Gustafson is board-certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine. He has experience in graduate medical education work, having served as past chair of the CAMC Special Review Committee and currently vice chair of the Graduate Medical Education Committee. At the state level, he is a past president of the West Virginia Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians. Nationally, he is actively involved with the CORD Remediation Committee and the ACEP Academic Affairs Committee, and he represents West Virginia at the national ACEP Council.
His academic interests include graduate medical education, feedback, mentorship, resident wellness and simulation. He is an active researcher and journal reviewer for multiple publications, with scholarly work focusing on medical education, simulation, feedback and remediation.
His hobbies include golf, pickleball, guitar and spending time with his kids and family.
Adam Crawford, DO, FACEP
Adam Crawford, DO, is a distinguished leader in emergency medicine, having graduated from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in 2012. He completed his residency at Charleston Area Medical Center in 2016 and became a core faculty member for the Emergency Medicine residency program shortly after. In 2017, he took on the role of Medical Director for CAMC’s General Division Emergency Department, eventually becoming the Chairman in 2023 and serving as Chief since 2020.
 
In 2024, Dr. Crawford furthered his expertise by earning an MBA focused on health care from West Virginia University. He is actively involved with the American College of Emergency Physicians, serving as a national councilor and a board member for the West Virginia Chapter, where he has also held the position of past president.
 
His clinical interests encompass airway and ventilator management, trauma care and emergency department operations, particularly concerning boarding and throughput. Outside his professional commitments, Dr. Crawford enjoys traveling, skiing, golfing and attending sporting events with his wife and three children.
Brian Hensley, MD, FACEP
Brian Hensley, MD, FACEP, received his medical degree from Marshall University School of Medicine in 2012. He completed his Emergency Medicine residency in Greenville, NC, at East Carolina University in 2015. Dr. Hensley returned to his home state and began working at CAMC as a core faculty member of the residency in 2016. In 2017, Dr. Hensley was appointed the Clerkship Director and served in this capacity until being appointed Associate Program Director in 2024.
Brent Brash II, DO, FACEP
William "Brent" Brash II, DO, graduated from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM) in 2017. He completed his Emergency Medicine residency at Charleston Area Medical Center in 2020. After graduating from residency, Dr. Brash accepted a position as a Clinical Core Faculty member for CAMC's Emergency Medicine Residency program. After working and teaching in this role for three years, he progressed into his current role as an Academic Core Faculty member. Dr. Brash also currently holds the role of our residency's Clerkship Director, where he strives to provide our students with the best experience possible while rotating in the Emergency Department. He serves as the residency Simulation Education Coordinator, planning monthly didactics sessions based on high-fidelity simulation cases and skills stations. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
Outside of work, Dr. Brash enjoys spending time with his wife, Brittany, and his two dogs, Huckleberry and Nala. They enjoy traveling, hiking, fishing, kayaking and exploring this great state and nation. He is a Mountaineer through and through. He was born and raised in West Virginia and loves to promote its natural beauty and recreational opportunities. Leanne Lares, MA
Leanne Lares graduated from Marshall University with a master's degree in education. She was a classroom teacher for over 20 years before joining CAMC. In the summer of 2025, she became the program coordinator for the Emergency Medicine Residency. She was previously the program coordinator for the Hematology and Medical Oncology Fellowship and the Gastroenterology Fellowship.
During her time away from the office, Leanne enjoys spending time with her family, reading and being outside.
