Hear From Our Residents

Headshot

My experience at CAMC has been incredibly rewarding, with countless opportunities for both professional and personal growth. The program offers optional tracks that allow residents to tailor their training to their individual interests and career goals. I am proud to be part of the Clinician Educator Track, with a focused curriculum designed to help me grow not only as a physician but also as an educator. I also enjoy being part of the Wellness Committee, which is dedicated to making residents’ day-to-day lives in the hospital easier while creating opportunities to unwind and connect outside of work. Most importantly, CAMC has an exceptional team. My co-residents are supportive, passionate about providing the best patient care and eager to learn. Training at CAMC has also given me the opportunity to experience Appalachian hospitality and build meaningful relationships with my patients in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. CAMC truly combines the strengths of an academic and a community residency program, creating an environment where I feel supported, challenged and proud to train.

What I enjoy most about residency at CAMC is the supervised autonomy and the genuinely supportive culture among residents, faculty and staff that makes even the busiest days feel manageable. There are ample opportunities for mentorship to pursue your career path of choice.

Outside of work, I love Charleston’s relaxed pace, beautiful mountains and easy access to nature. It’s a great place to unwind and recharge.

Belonging

The CAMC Internal Medicine Residency is committed to an environment of belonging. We embrace individual uniqueness and foster a culture of inclusion and engage all individuals to help them thrive.

At the CAMC Internal Medicine Residency:

  • We foster a safe environment for faculty, staff and learners.
  • We will advance and build our workforce by recruiting, retaining and developing talented faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds.
  • We will address intergroup disparities in areas such as representation, retention, learning outcomes and graduation rates.

Wellness

Residency represents one of the most physically and emotionally taxing times of a young physician’s career and our program is dedicated to helping address the stress that comes with residency training before it becomes overwhelming. The CAMC community acknowledges signs of resident fatigue and burnout and makes an active effort to support trainees in their times of need. A Resident Wellness Committee has been formed within the medicine department and the residents on the committee meet throughout the academic year to plan events that will reduce stress levels and create a warm community for Internal Medicine residents and faculty.
